How Do I Cope With My Feelings?

When a parent leaves home, it can be really tough.

It’s normal to feel a whole mix of emotions, especially when grown-ups seem caught up in their own problems. Remember, it takes time to adjust to big changes.

You might find it helpful to write down how you’re feeling.

Don’t worry if your feelings change from day to day or even hour to hour – that’s totally normal. Everyone experiences things differently.

  • Get moving: Exercise can help you feel better both physically and mentally.
  • Communicate your needs: If you’re struggling to be heard, try writing a letter to express your feelings.
  • Set boundaries: Your parents’ problems aren’t your responsibility. It’s okay to say no to getting involved in their arguments.
  • Focus on school: School can be a good place to escape from what’s happening at home. Try your best to stay on top of your studies.

Remember, you’re not alone. Many people go through similar experiences. There are people who care about you and want to help.
